SPRING 2014 TRENDS

HeyHeyHey Y’all,
I would like to kick this post off by apologising profusely to you guys because I have been so lazy with the posts. I have been so busy with work and I am currently experiencing some skin issues (meaning I can’t take no OOTD/OOTN pictures) but whilst I am waiting for all of that to clear up, I am going to educate yal with what’s Hot, straight off the runway.

Before I get into the trends that dominated the catwalk, let’s discuss THE COLORS that you will be wearing this spring.

 Black and White

Monochrome gets a modern makeover.

 Icy Pastels

I am talking blush pink, mint green, violet/lavender and blues and because they appeared in different textures like metallic and satin, pastels got a fresh makeover.

3   White on White
Forget about #AllBlackEverything and embrace the White X White ensemble (which I personally believe is a lot more chic, classy and sophisticated)

4     Metallics
If you’re looking for glamour, park your car right here and look no further than the dazzling golds and iridescent silver hues that add immediate luxe to any and every outfit.

THE TRENDS

1    PRETTY FONDANT PASTELS
Until recently, pastels were never really my cup of tea (Thank God for fashion-evolution) but ever since I connected with the sensual facet of my persona, all I can say is, I LOVE ME SOME PASTELS.
A review of the catwalk showed off an array of soft springtime shades and the best thing about the trend is that you can either pick a color in your favourite silhouette and wear it head to toe for a killer look or you can combine a range of flattering colors for a more striking effect. I have to say I am really loving MINT and I am loving it in abundance.

2    WIDE LEG TROUSERS
They are versatile, easy to wear and extremely elegant. What I really loved about the WLT on the catwalk was the range available for different types of individuals. As a petite person, I LOVE everything high waisted because my legs are instantly elongated and i appear taller. If you’re not so big on flares, you can still get WLTs that are leaner on the frame- these also elongate your legs.

  BOMBER JACKETS
I believe it is time to accept that Sports Luxe is here to stay. If a trend could get edgier with seasons, it’s SPORTS LUXE.
It is very versatile. As seen on the runway, this aesthetic was merchandised beautifully with tennis inspired dresses, shorts and baseball caps. I call this beauty of a trend, ATHLETIC CHIC. Why? Because you can still be girly and edgy all at the same time.

4    TEA-LENGTH SKIRTS
This is probably my favourite trend of them all. Whilst the Micro, the Mini and recently the Midi & Maxi (yes, there is a difference) skirts all had their time to shine, nothing beats the LADYLIKE chicness and classiness of a FULL VOLUMINOUS TEA-LENGTH Skirt (it is the transition skirt between the midi and maxi). This particular trend also accentuates what should be the smallest part of a lady’s body- THE WAIST!
Wear with a cropped top or with bare arms and/or a high neckline to offset the length and make you appear taller.

5   SHIFT TOPS
If you’re looking for a sophisticated alternative to shirts and blouses, then this gracefully structured top might just be what you're looking for.

6    LOGO-MANIA
I believe that if you have something to say, you should say it loud and proud. What the spring catwalk has done in 2014 is encourage fashionistas around the world to wear their hearts style on their sleeves, their chests and everywhere else they can fit it.
I am happy to say that the 90s staple we all love, is here to stay.

7    GARDEN OF EDEN
If you have been looking forward to spring/summer since the beginning of winter like me, then this trend is just for you. It combines the vibrancy of flamboyant florals with the simplicity of sugar-coated lace entwined with sheer transparency. What more can a girl ask for?

8   METALLICS
For a show stopping, jaw dropping heavy dose of glamour effect, grab yourself a holographic dress/skirt/collarless coat. I can guarantee you; you will either stop or cause traffic. If you’re more muted with the type of attraction you want to attract, then may I suggest holographic accessories? Think brocade, lamé and chain mail.

9    SHEERLY THERE
Honesty Transparency is always the best policy and whilst the trend is slightly daring, it encourages you to flaunt it if you got it (LITERALLY). Think Mesh and Chiffon. Both are Sexy; Both are Seductive.

1   PRETTY PLEATS

Your spring wardrobe would simply be incomplete without the CORRUGATED skirt. Designers took to the catwalk to show off their origami skills by constructing skirts (& trousers) that ripple with razor sharp pleats. Pleats left the realm of ladylike and went edgy as they appeared in a range that encompassed midi lengths, glamorous metallic and vibrant colours for a fresh and modern take on the classic girl next-door look.

I would love to know which trends you guys are loving/wearing. Leave a comment below and I'll hit you up in my next post!

Love Always,
